What Missoula says about Matt.
Great experience all around. Matt was fantastic to work with, friendly, knowledgeable, honest, and easy to communicate with. He took care of the HVAC work at our house quickly and professionally, and everything is working great. You can tell Matt really cares about the work he does and about building his company the right way. It’s refreshing to work directly with an owner who takes pride in the job and genuinely wants his customers to be happy. I wouldn’t hesitate to call him again and would absolutely recommend him to anyone needing HVAC work.
Matt was incredible to work with. Thorough, honest, and straightforward in his approach. Our issue wasn't urgent but he was still able to come out next day and diagnose our HVAC issue. We have an older unit where parts are hard to find and he persisted on finding them to keep costs down which is always appreciated! I'll be using him again in the future.
Matt did an excellent job installing our mini split system. He was professional, responsive, and took the time to answer all of our questions throughout the process.it is obvious he takes pride in his work. After the installation he clearly explained how to use the thermostat remote, clean and maintain the filters, and general care for the system. He made sure we felt comfortable with everything before he left. The installation was seamless, and the finished product looks and works great. We highly recommend Matt, 10/10!
I like it when I find a trustworthy tradesman. Matt did a great job of explaining what my AC problem was and what all of my options for fixing it were. He was prompt. He charged a fair price and gave me an accurate estimate ahead of time. Definitely recommended.
Matt to the rescue! Our AC unit went out and Matt was able to come by, assess, get parts, and have it fixed So fast on a Friday evening, we are so thankful! His prices are fair and he kept us in the loop the entire time.

Local knowledge
Built for this valley’s weather.
Subzero snaps that find every weak igniter at once. Winter inversions that sit on the valley floor for days. Summer smoke that keeps windows shut in August. Older Missoula homes with ductwork nobody planned, and rural homes running propane, wood or electric heat.
Osprey designs systems for that climate: heat pumps chosen and paired for real Montana cold, filtration your blower can actually push air through, and ductwork fabricated to fit.
- Cold-climate heat pumpsPaired with gas, propane or backup heat for the coldest nights.
- Smoke seasonBetter filters, sealed returns and airflow that can handle them.
- Mixed fuelsNatural gas in town; propane, wood and electric out of town.
- Older homesCustom transitions and duct fixes so new equipment performs.

Straight answers
HVAC questions, answered.
My furnace stopped working on a cold night. What should I check first?
Check the simple things first: the thermostat is set to heat and has working batteries, the furnace switch (it looks like a light switch near the unit) is on, the breaker hasn’t tripped, and the filter isn’t clogged. If none of that brings it back, call for service.
Should I repair or replace my furnace?
Repair usually makes sense when the furnace is under about 15 years old, the repair is modest, and it has been reliable. Replacement starts to make sense when it’s older, needs a major part, keeps breaking down, or your bills keep climbing.
Do heat pumps work in Missoula winters?
Yes, if you choose a cold-climate model and size it correctly. Modern cold-climate heat pumps keep producing heat well below zero, though their output and efficiency drop as it gets colder.
How do I keep wildfire smoke out of my house?
Keep windows and doors closed, run your HVAC fan with the best filter your system can handle, and use a portable HEPA air cleaner in the rooms you use most. Follow Missoula City-County Health Department and Montana DEQ air quality updates during smoke events.
Why are some rooms always too hot or too cold?
Usually airflow: undersized or leaky ducts, too few returns, closed or blocked registers, or one system trying to serve floors with very different needs.
Does Montana require a license for HVAC contractors?
Montana doesn’t issue a statewide HVAC license the way it licenses electricians and plumbers. Contractors register with the Montana Department of Labor & Industry, and anyone handling refrigerant needs federal EPA Section 608 certification.
